We are our ancestors wildest dreams. Tell the world about your family triumphs and keep that dream alive.

Our family was very fortunate in that our grandparents kept historical family documents, photos, memories, and a strong sense of community. This holds the great power of simultaneously allowing their stories to be retold and gifting us with substantial wisdom to mitigate issues such as drought and food scarcity, all while fostering a sense of togetherness that we may feel is greatly lacking today. Now we would love to serve your family by hearing your elders’ stories too!

With cultural respect and sensitivity, we work with your elders to determine the best place within their memories to begin the conversation. Whether it starts on the migrant trucks, in the midst of a social justice movement, or somewhere else entirely, we will hold space for your elder to begin guiding you through their words. To do this, we will meet your elder where they are most comfortable, set our intention with gifts from the Land, and close out the evening with a cultural meal whose costs are covered by us.

All plants and Land knowledge recorded from their Stories will be logged in our database and labeled under the geographic area in which your story begins. This database can be used to inform your garden plan or other needs for your family over time. Please note: We understand that the African American diaspora oftentimes doesn’t have access to the historical knowledge regarding the Land you are Indigenous to. Because of this, we are partnering with Genealogy groups and accessing national archives in Washington DC, as needed, to ensure that your storytelling process begins at an equitable place. As the Stories continue, we hope to not only widen the database of Afro-Indigenous plant knowledge, but also foster a sense of place-based connection and spirituality. In short, this is Voices of the Land’s commitment to making sure the LandBack movement belongs to our Black relatives as well. Reach out below for any questions, feedback, or to start sharing your Stories!
